Shared Volunteer Management Program:
The Land and Water Partnership is developing an innovative model of shared volunteer coordination to help meet the needs of Rhode Island’s grassroots conservation community and effectively build organizational capacity through volunteerism. With funding from Third Sector New England's Capacity Building Fund and the RI Foundation, the Land and Water Partnership is researching volunteer best practices, sharing volunteer managenment information and successes and publicizing volunteer opportunities within the Rhode Island land and water conservation community to interested volunteers statewide. If you are a member of a local land trust or watershed council, and you would like more information about joining the LWP Volunteer Partnership, contact Meg Kerr at megkerr@cox.net. If you would like to sign up to receive the volunteer e-newsletter, see the sign up form below.
Volunteer Events and Projects:
We have two lists of volunteer oportunities. The volunteer events list is for one-time or short duration events. The volunteer projects page lists ongoing projects.
Our Partners:
Want to help preserve and protect Rhode Island's unique natural character? We hope to have our volunteer calendar and list of on-going volunteer projects up on the website soon. In the meantime, you can join our e-newsletter to have upcoming volunteer project e-mailed to you every month. To sign up, please fill out the form below and click the submit button. Providing your phone number is optional, but will allow us to get in touch with you if we have problems with your email address.
For Land Trusts and Watershed Councils:
Research demonstrates that the best prepared and most effective volunteer programs are those with paid staff members who devote a significant portion of their time to management of volunteers. Yet paid volunteer support is a luxury for the majority of Rhode Island's small, grassroots conservation organizations. To make the volunteer management process more effective and more efficient for grassroots conservation organizations, the Land and Water Partnership has developed a resource library of helpful hints for managing your volunteers and your volunteer projects as well as many other documents useful to small conservation organizations.
